Boasted Weakness

It’s not enough to know we have a weakness if we’re not boasting it. That does not mean that our act of boasting helps us; even Paul said that this boasting pointless. A habitual pulse check on the Gospel will tell us that no work of our own accord nor credit can possibly come close to accommodating the power requirements of our Father’s Glory. Simply stated: if my capacity is a AAA battery, God’s is decidedly more than the sum total power output of all the suns that He himself ever created with His word. By the way, our sun alone pops out a whopping 386 billion billion megaWatts. What is absolutely beautiful if not remarkable about our salvation in Him is that God say’s that His power is made perfect in our weakness. Paul says that because of this he “will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
When I go about my day I don’t hear a whole lot of boasting of anything having to do with problems, temperaments, or any backsliding way. Sure, with a good amount of time spent in our skin, if we’re honest, we should have a pretty good idea where we lack certain giftedness, skill, and maturity. Still, for many of us the boasting not only seems overzealous but the 12:9 passage just doesn’t seem to resonate with us at all.
Dont freak, but I love finding out where my living disconnects with His word. I can almost hear God still soft voice whispering, “Get ready, I’m about to reveal to you even more of me.” Even the slightest revelation of His unimaginable wholeness and wonder is often enough to rock your face off.
In the preceding verse it says: “7 To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.”-2 Corinthians 12:7
In Ephesians it says that we are to stand firm in His power and that “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” – Yeah, creepy but true.
Don’t think for a second that these dark worlders don’t recognize your weakness and won’t attempt to exploit it in combination with coworkers, family, members, friends, strangers, or the lost. Know your weakness well and pray for the discernment of others’. If we all boasted our weakness with each other what foothold would there be? We’d be reminded of the Grace of Christ in every relationship. No wonder the stakes to disrupt are so high! Church, any part of us that is not a part of Him is weakness. The good news is that ALL things satisfy His glory; in other words… BOAST IT OUT LOUD, He’s got us covered.
